Leave Management & Time-Off Policies
Read the article below
Leave disputes are the #1 cause of employee grievances
The fastest way to create resentment in your team is an inconsistent, opaque leave policy. When people can see exactly how many days they have, what type, and the current status of every request — disputes disappear.
Setting up leave types
Proactiq supports the standard Indian leave structure:
- Casual Leave (CL) — Short-notice, discretionary. Typically 12 days/year.
- Sick Leave (SL) — Health-related. Typically 12 days/year. Requires medical certificate for 3+ days.
- Earned Leave (EL) — Accrued based on days worked. Typically 1 day per 20 days worked.
- Maternity/Paternity Leave — Statutory. 26 weeks maternity, 15 days paternity (as per Indian law).
- Loss of Pay (LOP) — When all leave balances are exhausted.
The leave approval workflow
- Employee submits leave request (type, dates, reason)
- Manager gets a notification immediately
- Manager approves or rejects with an optional comment
- Employee receives an email with the decision
- Employee status automatically changes to "On Leave" on the start date
Leave policy document: Whatever your leave rules are — put them in a Knowledge Base article and link it from your employee onboarding checklist. "I didn't know" is never an acceptable defence when the policy is documented and accessible.
